Nightmare is an audiovisual work I am going to take part with in Empire II, a group show during the 57th edition of the Venice Bienal. In this video I reflect about enoclophobia or social phobia, that is emphasised with the frenzied way of life that increases day to day.

Since a long time ago I´ve had a love and hate relationship with the frenzied face of big cities. I need the adrenaline and the stress but, at the same time, I have to adopt an observer position to control the claustrophobia big crowds get me. When in October 2016 I received an invitation to take part in this project and I started to work, I was sure I wanted to talk about the anxiety and fear of crowds, enoclophobia.

Empire II is an artist led project designed and curated by Vanya Balogh to show at forthcoming 57th La Biennale di Venezia. Empire II is a tribute to the cinema life in Venice. Some years ago, almost 40 cinemas scattered across the city. Not all were commercial but many hosted alt screenings and 3 of them were purely porn. Since that time, all of them have been extinguished and now Venice is left with only one commercial cinema near the train station. Venice is an image of what happened in cities all over the world, We would like to invite you to discover our Cinema from May to November.

I film the piece in  Canary Wharf in December, 2016. The sound is from new Delhi and Mumbai in February, 2017. During the time I spent in India I was surprised of how many cinemas and “matinee” sessions I could find. It brought me back to my days at university when I would go to the 12pm session to resume study in the afternoon.

There is a limited edition of five copies. Visite the shop to discover it.
