On 18th of February, I participated Embracing the Underdog, a group show with over one hundred and twenty artists, in London to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The show was curated by Susan Haire with the support of the Geoff Leong Foundation and presented with The London Group and Friends It took place in Q-Park on Gerrard Steet, Chinatown, London.
My proposal was an installation that reflects the Chinese celebration of New Year overseas.
Inspired by the elements the Chinese use to decorate their houses and streets during this Spring Celebration, I created this installation where elements from traditional decoration and images from my project Chopsticks merge to create this personal interpretation.
I used pictures form my project Chopsticks a personal visual research that talks through Chinese images about the different reasons why we are sometimes forced to immigrate to a new country. It talks about our necessity to adapt to a new culture while at the same time we try to preserve our origins.
I selected a few pictures from the other artists in the show and you can see the complete gallery on Facebook.
