Portrait of a society that cannot take its eyes off the mobile phone screen. Portrait of a society that follows fashion trends without questioning anything. Portrait of a society without its own criteria for fear of rejection.
Portrait of a society that lives automatically, without stopping to breathe, think, or be aware of what is happening around it.
Portrait of a society that believes in all the catastrophic theories that surround us without verifying the information.
Peones is a piece that delves into a society disconnected from its collective roots, trapped in a system that prioritizes the benefit of the few over the common good. Like pawns on a chessboard, people in this society do not rebel; they are moved at the whim of power, serving private interests while their shared resources and rights are systematically taken away.
The idea for this piece was inspired by the title of Irene Nemirovsky’s posthumous novel, «The Pawn on the Chessboard», and my fascination with pedestrian crossings and the constant flow of people in the city. This title led me to reflect on how we have become passive pieces in a system that not only commodifies every aspect of our existence but also erodes the foundations of cooperation and collective well-being.
Strange bunch
I am trying to reflect my personal vision about society today through each image of this project. A society of zombies who live in an automatic state. A group of people who don’t know what is happening around them, who are always distracted by their mobile screens and isolated by oversized headphones. They don’t realise that there are wild animals walking near us.
